Sparrow Co began as an adventure into the unknown, a curiosity to explore new lands and understand unique cultures. Through this exploration, a doorway of creativity was opened and has birthed unique clothing and goods over the past 5 years. To us it's about simplicity, living with an open mind, loving the land and sparking curiosity to explore the mysteries around us. We have collaborated with artisans all around the world from Guatemala, Costa Rica, Peru, Hawaii, Bali and California, weaving cultures, stories and traditions into one.
Each piece is carefully designed with style and function at its core. We ONLY use 100% natural materials which are organic and untreated when possible. All products are designed in California with production ranging from a handful of closely knit artisan collectives around the world (our current collection sewn in Bali). We produce all our items in very small batches and only make more when needed. This way we can ensure there is no overproduction or excess waste in the making of our products. We also work to minimize plastic consumption at all costs and teach our artisans the same. The artisans we have employed over the years have become family to us and are beyond talented at what they do. We pay them accordingly honoring their traditions, skills and lineage. Your support not only votes for a sustainable alternative to fast fashion but employs good people in healthy working conditions to thrive and do what they love. THANK YOU!
FOUNDER & DESIGNER
Hey! Sparrow here :)
From when I was young I’ve always had an interest in expressing myself through clothing. Growing up in a small town in Maine there weren't many options. My sewing career began as I hunted through thrift stores for items to repurpose & transform into my own. I went on to study fashion at Accademia Italiana in Florence and dreamed of someday creating my own clothing line.
I later moved to New York City and ran a vintage store in SOHO, however something didn’t really feel right within city life and my heart called me back to the earth. I sold all of my designer clothing, stitched together a versatile shirt that could be worn 8 different ways and embarked upon a journey with my life in my backpack.
Following this freedom and the highest excitement of my heart, guided me to new communities and countries around the world. Every year, I designed a new collection to encapsulate my experience. It was my way to connect more deeply with the local people of the places I lived. I learned the languages, traveled to the ‘local’ parts of town and carried bags of salvaged fabrics on my own sweaty back, to be later made into my dreams. I sold and gifted my designs to friends and travellers along the path, and found immense purpose in the joy, freedom & elevation these creations brought to others.
In 2017 I moved to Hawaii to live sustainably on the land and study with my mentor Jeanne, the creator of FLAX. I learned how to sew professionally and bring my designs into the world. Jeanne also inspired me greatly to live in abundance with the earth and cultivate land, which led me to rooting down in California, where I now live, tend the soil and pour my love into growing food and the Sparrow Co brand.
Sparrow Co is a culmination of my love for fashion, for functional clothing and living in harmony with nature. I value a life of play & fun and that’s what these pieces are designed for! My teacher always said “Never wear something you can’t wipe your hands on.” So please, get dirty :)
